Mining Impact Specialists works at the intersection of large corporate entities and Indigenous organizations, navigating complex communications challenges where clarity isn’t just about good writing, it’s about respect, accuracy, and genuine understanding. They needed a creative partner who could translate technical mining information into language that local communities could understand, in formats that could work across multiple languages.
I worked regularly with MISL for a year and a half on all internal and external communications. This included travelling for on-site work, sitting in on and assisting with facilitation and visual interpretation for an Indigenous corporation of many nations re-imagining a mine site.
The work required making complex mining information simple and accessible for local communities, showing how it impacted them directly. Visual representation needed to work across languages, so design choices had to transcend text-dependent communication.
Beyond design, I supported proposal writing and production, article editing, and presentation strategy. The common thread was translating complexity into clarity while remaining deeply accountable to the communities being served.
